Find a trainer who can be firm without punishment and relies mostly on positive motivation. Flat collars are generally much better for training than stiff collars. Avoid any technique that causes pain or significant discomfort to the animal. Painful techniques can cause fear, aggressive behavior, unwillingness to learn, and break the special bond you build with your puppy.
